MIMPI

Multidisciplinary performance

Biography
Mimpi, or ‘dream’ in Indonesian, is a musical show centred around a Balinese gamelan, the Sekar Sandat.

Four characters, who are musicians, actors, singers and dancers in turn, explore key symbolic elements of gamelan practice and Balinese culture. The gamelan, a traditional instrument characteristic of Indonesian music, is composed of several percussion elements: gongs, metallophones and drums. It is considered a single instrument played by several people. Traditional musical pieces reflect a cosmogonic representation of the universe and constitute large, balanced, cyclical and symmetrical sound mandalas. Between humour and poetry, contemporary and traditional dance, Mimpi transports the audience into an atypical sound universe, inviting them to a true collective immersion in vibration.
