Maria Mazzotta is available as a trio in 2025/26 in France (notably between March 7 and 29, 2025 and during the summer season). Release of the new album “Onde” on February 23, 2024.
Biography
Her intense and deep interpretation is a rare and precious experience for the audience and it is what makes Maria Mazzotta one of the most appreciated voices in the European word music scene. Naturally ranging from south Italian textures to Balcanic grooves, the repertoire that Maria Mazzotta proposes comes from meticulous research and extreme respect for the cultures that compose it, with a special focus on the vocal characteristics of the different traditions.
In 2023 the new live project that sees her on stage with Ernesto Nobili on guitars and Cristiano Della Monica on percussions, two eclectic musicians that with Maria Mazzotta are producing and recording the upcoming album that will be released by the end of the year. Electric post rock textures meet Mazzotta’s visceral interpretation and create an original and profound combination. The research on this new sound has its roots in the earliest youth listening and passion for a genre that for a long time the singer from Puglia thought could never match with her discographic path.
Since January 2020, when she released her first solo album “Amoreamaro”, Maria Mazzotta started a non stop tour, traveling thousands of kilometres and performing more than 150 concerts among 25 different countries at least. The new show comes as a result of all this travelling, meetings, influences and emotions, and with the reflection on modern society. For the first time in her 20-years career, Maria expresses all the vital force of the peasant tradition, its rage and true power, through the use of contemporary instruments with a suburban sound.
Aware of the chance to express her true belonging to popular music with courage and freedom, those of a woman travelling through European capitals like Paris and Barcelona to big world metropolises like Jakarta and Bogotà, bringing herself on the stage with all her frailties and all her powerful force.
The new sound is bathed in the strength of the electric guitar, the effects research and the grooving percussion and it brings with it traces of these big cities while preserving the deep roots into the ground of south Italian tradition.
The trio formed by Maria Mazzotta and the two Neapolitan musicians Ernesto Nobili and Cristiano Della Monica started improvising and composing new tunes as well as re-arranging repertoire that belongs to the Italian tradition and culture. There are also homages paid to important figures in the artistic path of the Salentinian singer: “Terra ca nun senti” is the inevitable tribute to Rosa Balistreri, cornerstone of Italian popular culture that for Maria represents an example of virtue, bravery and strength both on stage and in private life; and “Marinaresca” is an homage to the big Maestro Roberto De Simone and his fundamental musical research.
Maria Mazzotta’s concert is a suggestive show to be fully lived, letting yourself be accompanied and lead by a unique interpreter.
